A more better way to protect your images would be to put all your images into a special folder on your webhost, like “/images/” Then, you can add a entry inside your robots.txt file:

This will tell the spider not to crawl that folder, and so they won’t be able to generate any thumbnails of your images and put that on their server.

Then again, the question is why you’d want to keep spiders from indexing your images in the first place. There may be some small bandwidth costs involved when crawlers download your images, but Google Image Search can send tons of free traffic to your site.

Google Static Maps API: is now Live

Google has recently released what they call the Google Static Maps API. Its not very much like the previous Google Charts API. This API is basically just a parametrized image URL – more like a very light weight sibling of the JavaScript Maps API.

360 cities

The 360 Cities is a new website which basically displays a Google Maps mashup from which you can launch fully 3-Dimensional panorama photos of different locations. Instead of just going through the photos from their website, you can also add the cities 360 in your Google Maps. Jeffrey Martin from Prague, Czech Republic, reports saying that he started this just 8 months ago and that it’s “starting to mushroom into the world’s largest VR photography network in the world” with currently 45 cities, and over 5,000 spherical panoramas.

I found the interface layouts of the site pretty inconsistent; for instance the launch page is completely different from the city overview page which is Also very different from the panorama page. However I must say that the Quicktime based panoramas are simply brilliant.

You can set content bids for any campaign running on content sites in the Google Network. Content bids are set on the ad group level within each campaign.

Here is how to enable content bids in your campaign:

  • Sign in to your account at https://adwords.google.co.uk.
  • Tick the box next to the keyword-targeted campaign that you wish to edit.
  • Click the button marked Edit Settings.
  • Now locate the section marked Networks. If you have not already selected Content network, do so now.
  • Select Content bids.
  • Click Save Changes.

Once you have enabled content bids within a campaign, you can make separate bids for content ads in any of the ad groups within that campaign. Here is how:

  • Sign in to your account (if you have not already done so) at https://adwords.google.co.uk.
  • Click the name of the campaign you want to adjust.
  • Put a tick in the box next to the ad group(s) for which you want to set separate content prices.
  • Click the button marked Edit Bids.
  • Enter your new prices next to Content for each ad group. (Default is your bid for search sites.)
  • If needed, use the yellow box with the downward ‘V’ to copy the same bids across all ad groups.

The Google Network is made up of websites and other products, such as email programmes and blogs, who partner with Google to publish targeted AdWords ads. With no extra work, you will reach a vast and highly targeted audience.

All web sites and products are reviewed and monitored according to Google’s rigorous standards, so as the network grows, your AdWords ads will continue to show only on high quality sites and products.

Besides appearing on search results on Google, AdWords advertisers are automatically eligible to have their keyword targeted campaigns appear on our search network, our content network or both. New keyword targeted campaigns are automatically opted in to distribution on the Google Network, so if you want your ads to appear on search and content sites and products, then you do not need to do anything. You may also choose to enable the content bids feature. This lets AdWords advertisers set one price when their ads run on Google and Google Network search sites and a different price when their ads run on the Google content network. Learn more about content bids.

As an AdWords advertiser, you can also choose to create site targeted campaigns, in which you choose the exact sites where your ad will show rather than choosing keywords to trigger your ads. Site targeted campaigns are displayed only on content sites in the Google Network and only on the specific sites that you select. Other Google Network facts that you might like to know:

  • There is no additional fee to advertise on the Google Network.
  • You can use additional ad formats, such as image and video ads, when you run ads on the content network.
  • Some sites and products in the Google Network show as few as the top 3 ads per page. The higher your average ad position, the more exposure you will obtain.
  • All ads are reviewed before being displayed across the Google Network, so you may see your ad show on Google first. If you edit a previously reviewed ad, your ad will be reviewed again before it shows once more on the Google Network.
  • To ensure overall quality, all sites are carefully reviewed before being allowed in the Google Network.
